Tom is the creator of worlds in both the Science Fiction and Fantasy genres.  Writing pieces that examine
the darker nature of humanity and civilisation, his works are best described as action-noir, with disturbing
protagonists and heroic villains.  Yet while sometimes thought provoking, his novels are not ‘heavy’ and
remain essentially page-turners in their nature.  He has occasionally used the pen name-George
Laurence to differentiate between genres of his work.

At present, Tom’s primary focus is on his Science Fiction world of the Sophyan Empire.  This world, set in a
future where Earth is a distant memory, portrays a growing interstellar civilization with a mixture of both
familiar and disturbing ideologies. The stories follow the adventures of an elite military intelligence unit as
they follow the trails of a conspiracy that seems to lead to the heart of the Empire.

Though he has remained silent on the topic, there remains a debate among his readers as to whether his
society is intended to be utopian or dystopian. Indeed, with sympathetic characters on all sides of the fight,
he has thus far made the reader uncertain as to whom exactly they want to have come out on top.  He does
promise, however, that the series has an end, and that while he would not rule out other books in set in the
same ‘universe,’ the readers will feel a sense of resolution upon reading the last chapter.  After completing
this series, T
om intends to return to his Fantasy work, the Dark Throne series.

Prior to becoming a professional writer,Tom worked for twenty years as an archaeologist and
anthropologist specialising in the cartographic and computer based approaches to the study of the human
condition.  He has earned a doctorate from the University of Oxford, and Masters degrees from the
University of Cambridge and Cornell University.  His work has involved the holistic integration of developing
technologies into anthropological studies, and the development of computer simulations designed to
examine both group and individual behaviour.
